Gronant to Colwyn Bay, Saturday 3rd July 2010 ![]() Loz Harrison
'On Saturday 3rd July 2010 89 bike riders took off from Gronant, along the Coastal Path, to Colwyn Bay in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the North Wales Cancer Centre. The event was organised by Loz Harrison of Flint. The event was supported by the Denbighshire & District Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The charity celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, hence the name of the event. The family and friends arrived bright and bushy tailed from 8am, ready for their personal quests. Some had been cyclists, some hadn't been on a bike for years! At 9.15 they all left in a stream of LLR bright yellow shirts, very eye catching at that time in the morning. Everyone was happy they were taking part, supporting Loz and our charity. The branch supporters stayed behind at our start point and were supplied by the local cafe, lots of tea and bacon sandwiches to keep us warm. At about 1.30pm the first tired and elated cyclists returned, they arrived back to a medal and a hug and a kiss from Debbie. Some arrived back without a trace of sweat on their brow, others exhausted. This was their moment, they had achieved what they had set out to do 50K. It was such an emotional time when they arrived, some were even in tears. Many had to dig deep as 50k is a LONG WAY, but they new that they were helping those people with blood cancer. They knew no matter what they would do what they had gone there to do, to help make a difference to sufferers lives. Their commitment and determination to help our charity showed on every ones face, the support for Loz was clear to see. A truly amazing thing to be part of with truly amazing giving people. We did however have 5 added cyclists on the day 5 youngsters aged 8 to 12. Some did 25k and the others doing the full 50k. These amazing youngsters were Lois Dale, Thomas Edwards, Jacob Jones, Libby Millington and Chloe Nicholson. On the same day a golf tournament at Flint Golf Club took place followed by an evenings barbeque and karaoke.
We would like to express are heartfelt thanks to Loz, his family and friends for their commitment, kindness and hard work to make such a fantatsic day. To the Flint Golf course for taking part, and all the people who helped the day go with a bang. On a personal note Debbie & Terry would like to add that they had a great day being among so many nice people. ![]() Total funds raised £13,000 - a further £1000 was raised on the day, which went to the local cancer hospital |
